The first and third of recent renovations to the upper and lower levels of Mies van der Rohe’s S. R. Crown Hall, done in collaboration with Gene Summers and Wiel Arets during their deanships; both projects consider how to preserve a modernist building, reinstating original elements while adapting the space to contemporary uses through the addition of study rooms, offices, and a library.
