Office Renovation Progress

The new centrally located Open Plan of this office space is getting many new pieces of ceiling this week, to replace the spots where there used to be walls.  The curved shaped of the building creates a unique opportunity for a typically rectilinear ceiling system.  Splaying out from the central building core, the ceiling grid requires each tile to be a unique shape.  This technique creates a dynamic and attractive finished ceiling, especially with the sleek, integrated lighting.

The millwork components are nearly all installed, and look fantastic!  Some pieces are in the process of being assembled, so it is the perfect time to investigate the small details of construction.  I am still learning about millwork construction techniques, and this will be very helpful for drawing millwork details in the future.

Office Renovation Progress

The renovation of this Downtown Chicago office space is taking big steps forward as the walls are taking shape.  This week the millworkers worked to match the existing veneer, which was quite a challenge.

Typically, as millwork is exposed to sunlight over a number of years it ages in color.  Even though the millworkers who are doing the renovation are the same ones who did the initial installation, it can still be a challenge to match existing conditions.  The hickory veneer presented to us this week is an excellent match, and we are anxious to see the new millwork in place!

As one of the quicker projects for our firm, this office renovation should be moving right along after this week.  More photos to follow, stay tuned.
